SHACHI - Language Resource Metadata Database

The corpus contains speech recordings of 168 speakers (8 speakers per language) articulating 200 major city names according to their native pronunciation. It covers 21 languages from all over the world : American English, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, English(British), Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese(Brazilian), Russian, Spanish(Castilian), Swedish and Thai.

This is a multi-lingual speech database to be used for the performance tests for IP telephony or mobile phone technologies. Six languages (Japanese, North American (NA) English, British English, French, German, and Chinese (Mandarin) ) are available and more than 100 sentences are spoken by each speaker.

The database contains recorded utterances of Japanese personal names, covering 99.95% (approximately 180,000 names) of Japanese names. The package also includes the place name (address) speech database (1998). The place name database contains recorded utterances of Japanese place names, covering almost 100% of place names in Japanese addresses. Both databases come with corresponding transcripts (Kanji/Kana forms and speaker information).

The database contains speech recordings of a total of 100 male and 100 female Japanese speakers (50 elderly, 30 elementary school children and 20 junior high and high school students) reading short Japanese sentences. They are given no special instructions regarding utterances, and their native accent is preserved unless it results in readings or lexical meanings that are incorrect.

The database contains speech recordings of professional voice actors reading 1000 phonetically balanced Japanese short sentences, covering all phonemes of Japanese. Corresponding transcripts with orthographic and kana forms, and a format conversion software are also included in the package.

The International Corpus of English (ICE) began in 1990 with the primary aim of collecting material for comparative studies of English worldwide. Eighteen research teams around the world are preparing electronic corpora of their own national or regional variety of English. Each ICE corpus consists of one million words of spoken and written English produced after 1989. For most participating countries, the ICE project is stimulating the first systematic investigation of the national variety. To ensure compatability among the component corpora, each team is following a common corpus design, as well as a common scheme for grammatical annotation.

The LUCY Corpus is an electronic sample of modern written English produced in the UK by a spectrum of writers ranging from skilled published authors to young children, equipped with detailed annotation identifying grammatical and other linguistic structure. Compilation of the LUCY Corpus was sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council (UK), under grant R000 238146, 2000-03, and was carried out at the University of Sussex.

It is a world's first Web tool for searching and viewing the words and phrases uttered by babies at the age between 10 and 36 months old, from the viewpoint of meaning, sound, and their age in month. It is a helpful tool to serch the meanings of utterances of "baby talk" characteristic to young children.
