SHACHI - Language Resource Metadata Database

The full BNC contains about 100 million words: 90% written, 10% orthographically transcribed spoken text. The first edition was published in 1994. A slightly revised version, BNC World, was made available world-wide in 2001. In 2007, the BNC was made available in XML. BNC XML Edition is the version currently distributed and supported. Two subsets of the BNC have been produced separately: BNC Sampler and BNC Baby.
The BNC corpora are distributed with a search tool. Xaira is a development of the SARA program originally developed for use with the first versions of the BNC and BNC Sampler. XAIRA can be used with the BNC Baby, BNC Sampler (XML-version) and BNC XML Edition as well as with other corpora in XML format.

The Centre's computerised databank is known as the International Corpusof Learner English (ICLE) and is the result of over ten years of collaborative activity between a number of universities internationally and currently contains over 2 million words of writing by learners of English from 19 different mother tongue backgrounds.

The Collins WordbanksOnline English corpus is composed of 56 million words of contemporary written and spoken text. To get a flavour of the type of linguistic data that a corpus like this can provide, you can type in some simple queries here and get a display of concordance lines from the corpus. The query syntax allows you to specify word combinations, wildcards, part-of-speech tags, and so on.

This collection consists of high-fidelity recordings of 150 native speakers of Japanese; each speaker produces four repetitions of 323 short prompts, including city names, control words, monosyllabic words, isolated digits and strings of four digits. Each reading session was recorded with two microphones, yielding two channels that differ in audio quality for each utterance. Channel 0 (LDC96S64) contains data recorded with a standard dynamic microphone---a Sanken MU-2C microphone. Channel 1 (LDC96S65) contains data recorded simultaneously with a condenser microphone that presumably varied from site to site and is available separately.
